Enviornmental Benefits

As the development of a nation undergoes a state of transition, the awareness and importance of the environment becomes of greater importance. All nations rely heavily on the welfare of the World's environment, unfortunately however, the exploitation is an all too common occurrence. Although it is noted that an overwhelming amount of pollution stems from the more industrialized nations of the north, the southern nations are growing in the amount they produce. America is charged as the largest and most powerful nation of the world to oversee the development of alternative sources of energy.

H umanity as a whole uses over one- third more resources and eco-services than what nature can regenerate. In order to combat the abuse of the environment and its resources, the world must implement the method of sustainable development. The ability to make development sustainable is to ensure that it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of the future generations to meet their own needs. There must be a balance between the necessity of these nations to utilize their raw materials and do it in such a way that they can leave the future generations the possibility to also reap any reward.

FuelBio is committed to working with farmers in order to develop a technology that is sustainable and renewable. Protecting the environment is central to our company, and we understand that we are only stewards of the earth. Our major feedstock is domestic soybean oil, which is a byproduct utilized after the crushing process. Unlike ethanol, our feedstock does not compete with the food market. Soybeans production has a positive impact upon the soil, because unlike corn, soy can replace nutrients into the soil.

The life cycle process of the soybean biodiesel has a negative rate of Carbon Dioxide emission. This is evident the process of photosynthesis that plants utilize in order to grow and development. Within photosynthesis, the plant uses sunlight, water and CO2 as a nutrient source. The plant will emit oxygen into the atmosphere as a waste product. Through this process, CO2 greenhouse gases are reduced.

According to the National Biodiesel board, biodiesel is the only alternative fuel to voluntarily perform EPA Tier I and Tier II testing to quantify emission characteristics and health effects. That study found that B20 (20%biodiesel blended with 80% conventional diesel fuel) reduced total hydrocarbons by up to 30%, Carbon Monoxide up to 20%, and total particulate matter up to 15%. Typically, emissions of nitrogen oxides are either slightly reduced or slightly increased depending on the duty cycle of the engine and testing methods used. Increases in NOx can be effectively eliminated with the use of normal mechanical remediation techniques (e.g. catalysts or timing changes). Research also documents the fact that the ozone forming potential of the hydrocarbon emissions of pure biodiesel is nearly 50% less than that of petroleum fuel. Pure biodiesel does not contain sulfur and therefore reduces sulfur dioxide exhaust from diesel engines to virtually zero.

Biodiesel helps preserve and protect natural resources. For every one unit of energyneeded to produce biodiesel, 3.24 units of energy are gained. This is the highestenergy balance of any fuel. Because of this high energy balance and since it is domestically produced, biodiesel use can greatly contribute to domestic energy security.
